Bradley Multimedia and Theatre Departments Production of "The Oresteia"

Title: Producer, Video Lead

Date: August-November 2008

Client: Bradley University Multimedia and Theatre Departments

For "The Oresteia", I acted as one of the two Multimedia Producers as well as the Video Lead. I was responsible for organizing and planning shoots and test shoots, setting up equipment, shooting, capturing, keeping things on schedule, and making sure that everyone knew where they were supposed to be and what they were supposed to be doing. After shooting, I was responsible for making sure that things were getting done on schedule, helping to set the aesthetic tone for the pieces we produced, putting compositions together, and reviewing compositions when they were finished to make sure that no changes were needed.

The script for this production was re-written by a team of Theatre students and took several months to complete. By the time the script was finalized, there had been many changes made from the rough copy of the script that we had started with and we ended up changing a lot of our ideas to work with the new script. The production ended up coming together in about three weeks, which was a much shorter time frame than we had planned on needing to get everything done. We had quite a few problems along the way with our ideas not working, computers not working, and the system for running the show crashing. We only had one full rehearsal before opening night, but everything went well and the production recieved great reviews. Below are excerpts from some of the reviews as well as clips from the production.

The piece below was the opening sequence for the play, which was used to set the tone. I worked on this piece by myself using parts from other compositions that we were using throughout the play. This sequence was the video projection of Orestes' dream as it turned into a nightmare, which was the opening of the play. To view the piece, click on the image below.

The piece below is one of the many short sequences of bloody images that were used as part of The Furies sequences where they are torturing Orestes for killing his mother and her lover. This was created by taking a series of still images and then putting them together in AfterEffects. Jim Ferolo created the dark style for the piece, and I edited the photos together.

The Oresteia - Bloody Images

Below is one of the pieces used for the appearance of the goddess Athena. We also used the same treatment for the god Apollo throughout the play. To view the piece, click below.

The Oresteia - Athena

The following piece is another used for The Furies. This showed the ghost of Clytemnestra torturing Orestes. I used a similar treatment as used for the gods, but in red instead of blue.

This video is the documentary of the making of "The Oresteia". I, as well as the rest of the class, helped create the documentary. I helped shoot a few of the interviews, pan and scan photos, and also helped edit a few of the scenes together.

The Oresteia Documentary

Below are some reviews of "The Oresteia".

"The Bradley theater department's production of Aeschylus' "The Oresteia" is not your Greek tragedy of yesteryear. It's a Greek tragedy effectively updated and adapted for the 21st century - with plenty of blood, plenty of animation, plenty of visual action... this production receives high points from me for its theatricality and imaginative use of technology, which even includes text messaging the audience with messages like "Apollo rules!" In more ways than one, "The Oresteia" is a remarkable college production." -Gary Panetta of Peoria Journal Star

"The Bradley Theatre Department’s production of “The Oresteia” finds a clever way to tell a 2,500-year-old story with a modern day twist... For such a difficult play and story, the cast and crew found a creative and new way of representing it." -Tara Jabbari of the Bradley Scout

Bradley Renaissance Campaign

Title: Video Production Assistant

Date: February-April 2008

Client: Bradley University Renaissance Campaign

This production was a black tie event to raise money for Bradley's Renaissance Campaign to build new facilities for the university. I helped both while shooting at Chroma Studios in Peoria, IL, and also by helping out with post production once shooting was over. While on set, I helped call shots, slate, and capture footage. During post production I helped edit photos, put together compositions, and make adjustments where needed. Below is one of several compositions that I put together for the event. This particular one was to recognize some of the major donors to the campaign.
