Artwork

These are photos I have taken both on vacation and for various school projects at Bradley. Most have been touched up in Adobe Photoshop.

If you are interested in having me do any design work for you please let me know! Right now I am charging very low rates, or none at all, depending on the size of the project and what it is for. I am especially interested in designing for entertainment companies, such as those for bands, record labels, recording studios, films, clothing companies, etc. I am also hoping to do more designing for other professional companies in the future as well. If you have any questions or would like to contact me, please send me an email at amandaATamandano2.com (be sure to replace AT with @) and I will get back to you within three days.

May 2008 // ART206 // A Celebration of Numbers in Movies

For my final project in ART206 Graphic Design, we had to make posters and a special invitation package for a fake movie festival with a theme of numbers in movies. Below is the poster I used for it as well as the front and back of one of the information cards that went with the special invitation. Following that are two other poster designs that I had in the beginning but which were not used for the final project.

March 2008 // ART206 // Peoria Chiefs Calendar in style of David Hockney

In my ART206 Graphic Design class one of our assignments was to make several months of a calendar for a local company. I was assigned to the Peoria Chiefs Baseball team and had to emulate the style of British artist David Hockney. Hockney does both photographic collages as well as paintings. I decided to use his collage style for the project and obtained several photos of the Chiefs which I cut up and collaged together to get the distorted effect achieved in Hockney's works.

Spring 2008 // ART206 // Conceptual Designs

For this class we had an ongoing assignment of sketching conceptual designs. We were given 30 different topics and had to make designs for 15 of them. Here are some of the highlights.

This drawing is set of promotional postcards for One World cafe next to Bradley University.

One World

For this portion of the assignment, I made storyboards for a commercial about flights to outerspace.

Space Storyboards

Close to BU's campus there used to be a coffee shop called Jesters. For this assignment, we had to make a new logo for Jesters becoming a cyber cafe.

Jesters Logo

This was another storyboarding assignment where we had to conceptualize and draw out a plan for a commercial advertising the Monopoly Championships coming to Peoria's Civic Center.

Monopoly Storyboards

For this assignment, we had to draw several magazine covers in the Bauhaus style, which is full of geometric shapes.

Bauhaus Magazine Cover

This part of the project was another storyboard assignment where we had to draw a short about the life of a bowl of fruit. I didn't show all of the frames since some of them would be repeated with various fruits.

These are billboard designs advertising the many services of the American Red Cross.

This assignment was to come up with an advertising campaign to warn people about the dangers of AIDS.

AIDS Posters

This storyboarding assignment was to come up with a concept for a short film about the color red. I chose to focus on the different reactions we have to the color red.

Red Storyboards

For this part of the project we had to come up with advertising for a new fragrance called Revenge. I wanted the bottle to look like poison and for the main colors to be dark red and black.

Revenge Campaign

This assignment was to see how many different things you could draw for the word "eye".

These are logo possibilities for the Peoria Film Festival. I think the ones with the bridge worked the best.

January 2008 // ART206 // Graphic Design Photoshop Exercises

These were done as an exercise using Photoshop. The first photos are from the exercise which focused on combining two photos into one. For the first one I used a lion and a dandelion, and for the second I used a statue of Buddha and a punk with a mohawk and the Rock and Roll symbol.

DandeLion Punk Buddha

This is a group of type figures I did of The Beatles. The goal for this part of the assignment was to make people or other objects out of type.

The Beatles Type Figures

For this portion of the assignment, we had to replace letters of words with an object related to the word. Hopeless Popped Hotel

This part of the assignment was to take several words we were given and make silhouettes of them in black and white. The words used were "smoke", "hot drinks", "flower", and "balance".

Black and White

The next several photos are barcode redesigns. The numbers beneath stand for various statistics related to recycling coffee cups, lives lost to war, and gallons of water added to the oceans yearly due to global warming.

January 2007 // ART105 // Line Art

For our study of line art we had to use different kinds of lines to create works that implied space. The first one was the one I ended up using for the final piece to turn in on that assignment. When i originally made it I was thinking of a horizon or a tunnel. The second piece I was thinking of the flow of energy and electricity. For the last piece I wanted to kind of combine the two previous concepts along with the idea of a subway tunnel. All of the pieces were done with Sharpie markers on 11.5 x 8 inch cardstock.

February 2007 // ART105 // Shapes

For this project, we went through various magazines and clipped out 1 inch x 1 inch peices that contained a lot of shapes. We then had to reduce the clippings down to black and white only. After we had done that, we had to find a way to add back in some gray areas. The final piece was supposed to have about the same amount of black, gray, and white, with no color dominating. We then had to paint it using acrylic paint, which was somewhat difficult since mine had so many tiny, intricate details there.

March 2007 // ART105 // Printmaking

The next photo was a printmaking assignment. For this project we once again went through magazines and found some images that had a lot of different tones in them. From there, we made a print with a pattern on it, mine being circles. We then used the print to make 5 different sheets of tones, some which were light colored, had to go back to the image we found in the magazines and split them up into 5 different shadings of gray, plus white. This created a piece of paper which looked like a Color-by-Numbers drawing. When we had that, we cut apart the tones we had made and assembled them over the numbered drawing to create the piece shown here.

April 2007 // ART105 // Collage

The next photo is from our assignment on a collage. We had to think of four different images that all had various visual textures. One had to be a food, another an animal, another a letter or number, and the last one a manmade object. I chose to use a strawberry, a giraffe, the letter Z, and a djambe. We then had to take these four images and create a collage out of them where the textures went in and out of the objects they belonged to (such as drawing part of a giraffe with strawberry seeds). We made three of these, the final of which is shown here.

May 2007 // ART105 // Growth Animation

The last image was the final project for the class. For this we had to take several blank peices of paper and draw lines and circles on them. Afterwards, we had to think of a concept and draw or paint 4 images that would tell a story, using the lines and circles we had on paper. I chose to go with the concept of a girl going to see a concert. This was done with acrylic paint on cardstock. To achieve the glazed look on parts of it, I watered down the paint. This was done mostly to acheive the lighting effects.
